Sumahan On The Water

Luxury boutique hotel in Istanbul. This luxurious boutique hotel is situated on the shores of Bosporus, in one of the residential area with high level of the Asian part of Istanbul. The Sumahan on the water has 20light and large minimalist rooms with neutral colours. All the rooms and suites of the hotel have access to the Bosporus and many of them with fireplaces, which turns them into real dream places. The specialty of its restaurant is the Mediterranean seafood. The dishes are served onto a terrace next to the sea, in this way keeping the spectacular views as backdrop. Leaving the hotel, you can easily arrive at the bridge of Bosporus or cross the straits by motorboat, as in the past. A very charming hotel perfect for the romantic breakouts.

Great hotel, shame about...

The Sumahan looks good, is in a beautiful location but 2 things overshadowed the above. We stayed in one of the duplex ground floor (and most expensive rooms). What you don’t realise is that you have another room above you, above your bed. And that the soundproofing is virtually non-existant. We got woken up every morning by our upstairs neighbours, shuffling about or using the toilet & shower. Also, the hotel offers their boat to ferry you across. BUT only at 9am & 6pm to the spot nearest to the city centre and at 9.30am, 10.30 & 1.30 to the side opposite the hotel. Otherwise you have to pay $$$ for it. We wanted it around 11-12, so had to take the river bus with the locals. For the money the hotel cost, you would expect it to be at your convenience, and free. So... we won’t go back...
