Excellent
Perfect for couples or families with older children. Great place to have a wedding. The beaches and grounds are absolutely beautiful. The architecture of the rooms is from the 1950’s but they are renovated and fully modern. We had an extra bed in one of our rooms, which worked out great. The food at the resort was great. They have a kid’s menu, which is reasonably priced. The "bed and breakfast" special they featured during our stay was a full breakfast buffet, with made to order eggs. It was excellent and our family greatly enjoyed it. There are complimentary snorkeling gear, sail boats, and kayaks. The resort is made up of several small buildings located around the peninsula. There are several beaches. You can walk the entire grounds or ride the small shuttle bus. Each beach has its own feel. The main beach at Caneel Bay is great for kids. We liked Turtle Beach, which is very beautiful. We especially enjoyed tea time. One thing to be aware of: When you land in St. Thomas, Caneel Bay Resort shuttles you and your luggage to a dock in vans and then takes you directly to Caneel Bay with their private boat. (There is a public boat that goes to Cruz Bay but then you have to take a cab from Cruz Bay to Caneel Bay.) You return to St. Thomas the same way. However, Expedia does not include the cost of this service in your package. Nor do they list it as an optional transfer service. You are billed when you depart the hotel. The fare when we went was 100USD per person (round trip).
The kid’s menu is very reasonable. The extra bed in the room is a real bed not a cot, which works out great.

Classically wonderful
If you are looking for a place where the beach is your solace. This would be it. The water and the beaches are stunning. The service is outstanding and the people are genuinely kind. The food is very good for an island (from a Manhattanite). The beaches are startling beautiful and they have 7 of them which are all distinctly different.

very immpressed with low key service
excellent location for the family. many beautiful beaches and tons of water activity available. Good tennis courts and friendly staff in the pro shop.
