A real find
Wonderful place to stay in a small village called Samedan just outside St Moritz. Very helpful and attentive staff some of whom speak excellent English. On arrival on Sunday we were invited to a wine and canapé reception for guests on arrival where the manager and staff circulated to greet guests. Dinner is quite an occasion with a carefully planned set menu and an excellent young chef. Be prepared for silver covers over main course which are lifted with a flourish. There is a la carte available but nobody had it. Menu in restaurant was in German which made knowing what you were going to have somewhat difficult for us so an English version was produced specially for us for our dinner on the 2nd night. Buffet style breakfast was more than adequate with vast choice. Old-fashioned quality service, a lovely indoor pool, and outside a garden with sun beds and a stream running though it, Our room was very comfortable and quiet with balcony overlooking the garden. The bathroom was well equipped with a good shower. For rail travellers, the station at Samedan is just below the hotel, so trundling luggage up to the hotel is no real worry. Your room key card also acts as a free bus pass so getting around is very easy at no cost. We used the cards to go up in the mountain funicular to Muottas Muragl which has superb views and great walking.
Traveller's tip on dining
In Samedan, on the corner opposite the post office and bus stop, just down the road from the hotel, there is an excellent local bakery with lovely cakes breads and other delicacies on sale. Try the café too, which offers quality food and good service.
