Very impressed
For anyone with Hiltonitis, This is a great little hotel, friendly helpful staff a great little bar, comfortable rooms and a terrific spa. This hotel has it all. I would not hesitate to go back or recommend it to anyone going to Kyoto. Its central to most places. I walked nonstop around to all the major sights. A quick taxi ride to the Bullet train. So yes stay here!
Ask the concierge for dining tips. They gave me two great ones.

Very good base to explore Kyoto
The Hotel Monterey Kyoto is in a superb area of Kyoto with access to public transport, shops and restaurants. The staff were extremely friendly and the rooms were clean and well-equipped. I would definitely go back to this hotel in my next visit to Japan. Highly recommended.
The metro system in Kyoto can be extremely confusing and does not allow you great flexibility on getting from A to B. There are also lots of stairs to climb and can take forever. We ended up using the bus system which is superb and takes you to all the sights really quickly and efficiently. A day pass cost us 500 Yen and couldn’t recommend it more.

Good service and good location
Very good hotel with excelent service and in the heart of Kyoto. 15 minute walk to the Imperial Palace and the castle.
Exit at the Karasuma-Oike station and walk south for about 5 minutes and you’re at the hotel. No need to take a taxi from the station.
