Very good experience
A very well- situated hotel for Etna, Tormina, Syracuse etc. Although its not in an isolated postion, its grounds contain citrus groves and the surroundings give the impression of being in the countryside. Good room and very helpful staff., who worked hard to fix the air conditioning, which wasnt working when we arrived. A very good buffet breakfast. All in all, highly recommended.
There is restaurant at the hotel, which we didnt try but we didnt find any in Giarre. There are some very good authentic Sicilain restaurants in Milo , about 15 kms away and we also recommend some of the Agriturismo hotel restaurants in Etna national park.

Good base to explore Etna
Hotel Etna has a fantastic view of Etna and is a good base to explore the vulcano and surrounding towns provided you have a car. The hotel is located outside Giarre with the nearest restaurants being a 30 min walk along a busy road with no footpath. The only other downside was the air conditioning in the room was difficult to control and didnt want to go below 26 degrees! However... the room was always clean and very comfortable. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge of the best ways of exploring Etna and the surrounding area. All the staff spoke perfect English. Breakfast provided was a wide choice of meats, cheeses, cereals, juices and pastries and coffee and was the best of the hotels we stayed at in Sicily. The pool is lovely with great views of Etna and plenty of sun lounges and entertainment for children (e.g. lilos, balls, bats, water pistols!) Comfortable sofas are also provided in the shade and drinks and refreshments are available on request.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
The location of the hotel is ideal for those wanting a shopping spree in the numerous fashionable shops in Giarre. However, this is not a town that caters for the typical tourist with few restaurants that are difficult to find and walk to safely due to the lack of footpaths alongside the busy through road.

Hotel Etna October 2007
The hotel is very welcoming. All the staff are attentive, friendly and happy to direct you to local restaurants and attractions. The rooms are very clean, beds very comfortable and all the bathroom fittings are new. The hotel is stylishly decorated throughout. The buffet breakfast is simple but perfectly adequate and the orange juice is recommended. The hotel has installed an excellent pool and patio area and this is a little oasis in a somewhat rundown area of the town. It could certainly benefit from having a bar/restaurant.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Stay a few days here to explore the south east and east coast of the island but consider moving to another area to explore the west & north coasts as well.
