Great Hotel in the Heart of Salzburgs Old Town - location is top
The hotels style is quaint but the service is very friendly & efficient. Our standard room was very spacious with its seating area and good storage spaces. The large bathroom, with toilet enclosed was spotless but its style was a little dated. Complimentary slippers is a nice touch as is the bottled water each day as well as the large chocolate on the pillow each night! Breakfast should be missed because €21 for bread rolls, 2 eggs and a coffee is ridiculous inspite of the lovely service and very nice surroundings. Cafe Mozart, a few steps down the street provides the same for €7 and is open from 8am-11am. The Sound of Music Tour is a great introduction to Salbzurg and the surrounding areas (€37 via the hotel), do take the 25 bus to pick up a cable car to Untersberg the largest mountain nearby and do the Ice Cave tour (same price as the SOM tour) but be prepared for a strenous hike along up the cave and inside you will carry a tilly lamp because the tour is in the dark. You will ascend and descend 700 wooden steps so you never walk on the ice but you do see the fantastic shapes that the ice has formed. Great trip!
Everything is very expensive in Salzburg because of the euro rate. If you buy the Salzburg card buy it for one day and cram the sights in. Everything is quite small and doable. We stayed 5 nights but could have got away with a 3 night stay. The views from the fortress and from the Museum of Modern Art were great. English is spoken but shop assistants and waitresses really appreciate the effort to speak in German. Be prepared for smoking in cafes; although there is always a non-smoking part, although this is not always in the main part of the cafe eg Cafe Tomaselli.

What a fantastic, quaint Austrian Hotel!
This hotel was wonderful! The rooms are furnished with Austrian antique style furnishings but yet the rooms have all the amenities a traveler would want. It was clean, comfortable, quiet and restful. The staff at the hotel was wonderful ... helping us with many questions. Great location ... right in the center of historic Salzburg. The Goldener Hirsch restaurant was excellent too. I would highly recommend this hotel if you like quaint, historic hotels.
