Great honeymoon hotel
Went here on our honeymoon. What a great place to stay. The hotel and staff where excellent.Yes there is some building work next door. But you can hardly hear it.And we spent most of our days out.The hotel food was fantastic. It was also the hotels tenth birthday. And all the guest where invited.Everything was free. And there where loads of repeat guests. That shows what a great hotel it it.Cant wait to go again.

superb
This hotel was an absolute delight. Their staff are the best I have come across.Staff have the balance between being friendly and helpful without being overly attentive. The food was plentiful and delicious and the bar very reasonably priced with pianist on more than one evening.A beautiful setting caps it all off with very pretty garden and lovely terrace.Loved the little reading areas with old style comfy furniture and plenty of reading matter on each floor.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
ask the staff about best way of getting to where you want to go and they will give honest replies and organise for you. Takes away the strain.

Recommended stay
We had a wonderful 10 days in the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient and made our stay very welcoming. The small size of the hotel makes the service more intimate and personal. Reported building work next door and closeness to a road did not impact on our stay as some reviewers found. The walk back from town is uphill but to be expected on an island such as Madeira and you do not need to walk down the main road to the town or seafront. Breakfast on the terrace with the view of the sea and the flowers in the garden, plus the excellent food we ate both in breakfast and the restaurant in the evenings were a particular highlight of our holiday. We would definitely return to Funchal and this hotel in particular.
