Nice location, but not worth the money

I stay a lot of B&B’s in the St. Augustine area, and 63 Orange Street has been my least favorite. The B&B owner is very nice and helpful, but we felt a little too crowded by her and her adult son who live there. The room was way too warm, and we were uncomfortable while sleeping. The bathroom was nice with the jacuzzi tub, but I saw a cockroach run behind the toilet. The location is close to St. George Street and everything you would want to be close to. However, it’s very close to the public elementary school building next door. Our bathroom window had a direct view of the classrooms. Luckily, it’s summer and the kids are out of school, but during other seasons, this might be a concern. While most B&B’s offer afternoon refreshments and evening wine or cordials, this B&B did not. There was not even a fridge with complimentary water. This is not the place to go if you’re looking for privacy or a quiet retreat. Being that it’s a very old home, the walls are thin, and you can hear conversations downstairs. In addition, the Owner and her housekeeper have two African Grey parrots that start talking and making noise very early in the morning, although I admit the birds were somewhat entertaining, as one of them could make a noise that sounds just like a phone ringing. Overall, for the price we paid, I would have expected more amenities, and more privacy.

If you like a B&B, then this is a good one

Located just 2 blocks from the City Gates, includes parking, very polite hostess and housekeeper. Very knowledgeable about the area. The house was built in 1888, has nice antiques, nice old smell but has new amenities, cannot remember about internet though we did not bring a laptop and didn’t ask, but if you’re staying at a B&B then you will probably not bring one either. Wonderful breakfasts and dessert for breakfast! They will give you a TV if you want one. We walked everywhere, we parked the car and never got back into it until we left.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stay where you can park and ride the trolley. Old Town Trolley has a beach shuttle that will take/pick you up from the beach & alligator farm. Be back by 4 or 5 o’clock as they shut down early. Walk down St. George Street (shopping, etc.) Do not try to do everything in a few days. To enjoy your stay you need a good week and be well rested before you take off on all of the sights. If you have a few days take the trolley tour first and then just pick maybe 2 or 3 things and go for that.
