Excellent
Lovely hotel - although the taxi driver from the airport had trouble finding it! Really good location to get to places - easy to walk to all the main sights in the area.
Go to Amedros on Divanyolu to eat - really good food and service. Avoid Olympiat 2 - food was vile.

Very friendly and very helpful English speaking staff
We stayed at this hotel in October 2009. It is a 2 star hotel which many 4 star hotels could do with imitating. From the first encounter with the staff we were treated with such friendliness and helpfulness that it was a pleasure to walk back through the door each day and talk about where we had been etc. On one return we were feeling a little tired and under the weather with colds and the lovely receptionist sent mint tea up to our room to revive us! The rooftop terrace overlooks the sea of Marmara and lovely sunsets. Breakfast is a lovely cold buffet with plenty of everything and no problem with making fresh coffee even after the breakfast time is over. Takeaway meals can be ordered in the evening from nearby restaurants and eaten on the terrace where drinks are available - a nice touch. The Grand Bazaar is a 2 min walk away and all of the other sites are very easily walked to. The beds are firm and comfortable. The bathrooms (shower only) are clean (no mould between the tiles unlike a 4* hotel we were in recently) and shampoo basket refilled daily. The receptionist told us there will be family rooms next year.
We pre-ordered transport from the airport to the hotel and return. As most of the hotels are in little side streets and not easy to find this gave us a stress free start to the trip and a relaxed return.

Excellent quiet hotel near to main attractions
The Niles Hotel in Beyazit is everything one needs in Istanbul. It has a roof terrace for breakfast with a view of the Sea of Marmara, though not an unimpeded view. Service was friendly and efficient, rooms adequate in size - not spacious but clean and fresh looking with en suites. The staff made sure we knew where to go and how to get there. Because it is not right in Sultanahmet it tends to be quieter and cheaper than the main hotels, but is within walking distance or a cheap tram ride away from all the tourist areas. It is near the Beyazit Mosque, the University and the Kapalicarsi (the Grand Bazaar). We were totally happy with our stay there and would recommend it without reservation.
Rustempasa Mosque near the Spice Market. This is down a back street near the market, but people will show you where to go. It is a beautiful little mosque with wonderful blue, red and white tiles. Much more intimate and beautiful than the Blue mosque and missed by many visitors. There is no entrance fee, but a donation is welcomed. I am glad to have made the effort to see this little gem.
