Recommended hotel for short business trips to Doha
Friendly, prompt service at the hotel and overall with the flight arrangements through Expedia. If there is a complaint, it is about the lack of car parking, even for a short time when friends or business persons came for a pick up, let alone park for a short stay.
Traveller's tip for business travellers
Staff are friendly, and if you need late check-out to catch a evening flight, arrange in advance and get the best deal. Complimentary WiFi is a big bonus at Mercure Grand Hotel.

Great people ......great service!!!!!
I was pleasantly surprised. The people are very friendly and the service was outstanding. When I went to check out and they asked when my flight was, so that they could provide transportation, I told them my flight wasnt for another 12 hours. The desk clerk gave me my room key back and told me that I could have my room back at no charge for additional four hours to relax and enjoy and he would provide transport at that time to the airport. You cant ask for much more than that. Also, the room service is excellent!! Fast, courteous, and the food is great! Your money is well spent at the Mercure Grand Hotel. I will definitely stay here again when I am in Qatar.

Pretty good hotel at a reasonable price in a good location
Mercure Grand is nothing fancy, but compared with the other hotels in the corniche area, it is quite reasonably priced, has a great location near downtown, the souqs, and the airport, and is fairly clean and modern. I stayed there two nights (Friday/Saturday). The staff was helpful and attentive. The room was simple but clean and comfortable; I especially enjoyed the balcony that looked over the pool (quite nice looking) towards the corniche (about a 10-15 walk). The immediate environs were busy with shops and souqs. The hotel has free wifi and a decent restaurant. It appears to have been recently modernized, although only partially so, but it is by no means the rat trap Ive heard it described in other reviews.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If you only have a day or two to see Doha, dont miss the Islamic Art Museum (design by I.M. Pei). The corniche in general is the focus of the city and is quite a lovely place to stroll, with opportunities for dining and boat rides along the way. The souqs are always good fun if you like that sort of thing. The giant mall (Doha City Center) is worth a look but is really just a mall. FOOT TRAFFIC IS DIFFICULT except on the corniche -- take cabs.
