Lake Como and Milan The Grand Hotel Mengaggio
We had issues with the bar staff who refused to take drinks out into the garden/pool area. We also arrived at the hotel at around 9.30/10.00pm and although reception said they would provide sandwiches these two members of staff were not prepared to do so. The head waiter in the restaurant also told us we had not paid enough money for our wine so we could not have goblets for the red wine and it was served in a sherry galss. We had two bottle of wine which cost a reasonable amount. This incident showed a lack of professionalism on his part and he was clearly promoted above his capabililities. The Lake Room with balconies are excellent, spacious and roomy. It would have been absolutely perfect if we could have ade a cup of tea in the room
Traveller's tip on local attractions
The Grand Hotel Menaggio was an excellent location for exploring Lake Como as the ferry station is immediately outside the hotel. You can also buy bus tickets in the local paper shop. There is aso a bus service that takes you to Lugano in Switzerland and this is worth a visit. Milan is easily reached by ferry and boat and doing this and then catching the airport bus from outisde Milan station is also a lot cheaper than taking a taxi.

Great view, but pricey
Very good hotel and well kept. Room was large and comfortable with modern bathroom and spacious balcony. Not the cheapest going around but staff were helpful and friendly. Next to the ferry terminal and bus stop out the front makes transport easy

Wonderful Spot
We stayed at this hotel recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We have a 3 year old and while the age profile of guests at this hotel trends toward an older crowd, we felt very comfortable there. You are next door to the ferry station so getting around the lake is easy. We spent most evenings there in dowtown Managgio and had plenty of excellent options for dining.
