Wonderful winter stay at Hotel Plaza Real!

I was in Santa Fe for a meeting which was being held at the La Fonda, less than 2 blocks away. I stayed 5 nights 2/10-2/15/10 in a junior king suite which opened off the courtyard of the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable. There was a wood burning fireplace in the living room of the suite, and the staff will bring you wood and start the fire for you. This was a wonderful thing as the nighttime temperatures were 12-15 degrees F while I was there. The living room has a wetbar and a small refrigerator and coffeemaker. Staff will get you extra coffee whenever you need it. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there is a bar off the lobby that has a great selection of cocktails, beer, and wine at the going rate or less. Also in the lobby, they have brewed coffee available [free]. The hotel is a half block from the Plaza so you can walk to all the restaurants, museums, and sites in town. The only minor issue was that the towels were somewhat worn and the showerhead was not very good. However, I would definitely stay here again!

Not Impressed

The room wasn’t as clean as it could have been. The carpet was old and dirty. There was no towels which we had to ask for and then wait for 2 hours for it to arrive. The front desk wasn’t friendly at all. Also, We put our "Do not disturb" sign on the door, but they don’t even look at it seems like, as they just came in twice during our stay!

Great location and price!

You cannot beat the price in this location. We have stayed before. Yes, the bathroom is tiny, the service not what it should be and some minor things like weather stripping needed under the door. But the for the price you are 1/2 block from the plaza and surrounding restaurants, galleries, museums and shops. We had a two room suite. The sitting room had a wood burning fireplace - great for the cold weather. Parking, while additional, is covered. Unfortunately they layed off the bell hops after the holidays which left the front desk person to bring wood and light the fireplace. One night he just didn’t make it (a busy Saturday night). He was very pleasant, just overworked. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. We would stay again.

"Outstanding Customer Service!"

The location, ambiance and customer service makes me want to return every weekend. The lobby fireplace and margaritas were wonderful. We were imppressed with the room and it was quiet for sleeping in. We felt so well taken care of by Eric, who greeted us warmly and was there to attend to our every need. He built a fire in our room that was worthy of an Eagle Scout! We returned to work on Monday very rested and relaxed after our getaway to Santa Fe. Thank you so much! Mary and Bill

Good value, great location

Hotel Real was a mixed bag, though mostly good. I booked it mainly because of an incredibly low price available through Expedia, as well as its location steps from Santa Fe’s main square. It was a junior suite, with a wood-burning fireplace and comfortable king bed. The housekeeping was not great; the cleaners did not replace the plastic cups, left some of the trash, and every night we had to ask for more firewood. They delivered, but the hotel short-staffed so it sometimes took a while and ended up being delivered by the desk clerk. Some of the desk people were inexperienced (maybe because previous travelers reported their indifference and were replaced), and the check-in clerk messed up my internet access (which was fixed by another clerk). The $14 per night parking fee was exorbitant, especially since the hotel we stayed in in downtown Albuquerque cost $10. All in all, it was an excellent value for the location -- no doubt the price was affected because the first week of January, so we were told by the locals, is the deadest week in Santa Fe in the entire year.

Great accomodations-Great location

Very convenient to Plaza and good price for that convenience. Our only concern was that the requested non-smoking room smelled of smoke either from someone smoking or issues with the fireplace.

Charming hotel right in the center of Santa Fe

I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Santa Fe. There is a great lobby with couches, fireplace, and hotel bar. The rooms are not fancy but the hotel is charming and it is right off the town square. Perfect location, great price.

We stay for the location and fireplace.

The location and the fireplace are the biggest draws for us. The hotel employees are almost always kind. Sometimes they are a little inconsistent providing the regular hotel items, yet they respond when asked. We lo9ve the fireplace and that is why we stay there in the cooler seasons when we visit.

Excelent location combined with comfort and good price

Nice, quiet, comfortable room and great location hotel. The King size room we stayed had a separate sitting area, fire place wet bar equiped with small fridge. One window with small balcony looking at mountains and another nice balcony in other side over looking internal patio area.

Great location; We’ll return after they do needed refurbishing!

Excellent location for proximity to The Plaza, shops, restaurants, and museums, underground parking; nice hotel design and ambience; Aubrey (at front desk) and Joe (maintenance) responsive and helpful. Joe had to repair faucet in shower which broke off. Had to go buy fireplace logs since no one knew how to build a fire, and I didn’t have kindling. A continentel breakfast and free parking would have been nice. This Hotel needs carpet replaced, some furniture replaced and new towels and sheets. Bathroom in our junior suite extremely small. Cleaning service was extremely poor. This place just needs some maintenance and TLC.

We went in early December. We selected a palce near The Plaza so we could walk. If we had gone earlier we might have enjoyed the weather and walking more. Must see: The Plaza, Georgia O’Keefe Museum, Canyon Road, Railyard, Santa Fe Trail shops, restaurants, museums and galleries.

Charming Hotel in Sante Fe

Right off the main Plaza, this hotel sits on a quiet street. There is a lovely courtyard which is surrounded by two stories of rooms on either side. You are close to restaurants and museums. We never used our car once we parked. The room was lovely, with a fireplace and beautiful bedding. We would stay here again, for sure.

Vacation w/Girlfriends

This hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the plaza without a car. It is as cute as the pictures show on Expedia. Note the large fee for parking at the hotel (that should come with the room). The bar with nightly entertainment was closed on most nights due to lack of customers. That was very disappointing when returning to the hotel for a nightcap; especially because that was one of the reasons we chose the hotel. The rooms are small but cute and nicely decorated. The rooms were clean and maid service was good. Our room was accessed through a flight of stairs which was fine for us. If you cannot use the stairs, there are ground floor and elevator accessible rooms. On our first morning, the handle to the shower broke. It was fixed by the time we returned that night. There are numerous restaurants within a short walk, even just next door. We went during the off-season so the price was right for the hotel but I’m not sure I would feel the same way in-season. Parts of New Mexico are very rural and a highway might turn out to be a dirt road.

Location Location Location!!

This charming hotel is just off the Plaza and convenient to all that Santa Fe has to offer. The staff is very accomodating and the rooms are very clean and neat. Each room is a bit different. I say this because if for some reason you don’t like your room, perhaps you can change! It was quite cold when we arrived and we asked the staff for wood for the fireplace and they not only brought it, they built and lit the fire for us! There are many restaurants within walking distance and coffee in the lobby. The bath was a bit small, but the bed was quite good. Unfortunately, the heat didn’t work very well and the bedroom would be hot while the living area was cold. But yes, there are two rooms with 2 TVs which pleased my football-loving husband. We plan to stay there again when we go to Santa Fe.

Santa Fe is on the high desert plain. Most tourists are not accustomed to walking at this altitude and tire easily. Be sure to take water with you and drink often. You can become dehydrated before you realise. Most of the shops and museums have water available for this reason. It takes about 10 days to become accustomed to the altitude.

Loved location and convenience. Excellent choice

worked out great. It is in downtown, easy-access area, close to restaurants, activities, and plaza. The staff is pleasant. Room arrangement is a bit awkward (stairway to nowhere is in room for some reason) but it was an excellent choice.

Santa Fe has unlimited opportunities for activities in several areas.

Excellent choice for location and comfort. We would stay there again!

We reserved a junior suite for two nights and the hotel upgraded us when we told them it was our aniversary. The room/bath was somewhat old, but clean and very comfortable. The staff came one night to build a fire in the fireplace for us. The front and interior courtyard was nicely decorated with flower planters. The hotel is less than one block from the Santa Fe square so there are many shops and restaurants within walking distance. I would suggest getting specific directions to the hotel -- it was a little difficult to find. We’d recommend this as a good dollar value relative to other hotels on or near the square.

Try the Ore restaurant on the Santa Fe square for lunch on the balcony.

Very good hotel for the price through Expedia.

Hotel accepts pets with a non-refundable one time charge. Parking is a little pricey if you are on a budget. But hotel is well maintained and rooms are comfortable with most being configured in a "suite" with couch and fridge. Some have two TVs and a microwave as well, and it seems that this has nothing to do with price but the luck of the draw as to which room you get. It is right off the Plaza with easy walk to everything in the immediate area. No restaurant or food, but bar is available in the evening.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If you can be flexible with your times to visit, rates change significantly, and you can save from 25% to more than 200% depending on what is going on in Santa Fe. Just try different dates to get a feel for how much you can save...

Limited Lodging

Plaza Real features closeness to the Plaza. Rooms are comfortable, but old--bathroom was very limited in space/options. Service staff was lukewarm, and uninterested. Wireless Internet was useless..ended up using nearby library’s IP. There are much better options in SF at similar prices

Very convenient to Plaza and convention center.

The rooms on the third floor are a little odd and cramped because of the staircase in the middle of the floor. Also there is an extra daily charge for a refrigerator or microwave in the room, as well as a daily charge for parking. However the convenience of the location makes up for a lot and rates were lower than other nearby hotels.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The second floor rooms had no elevator access so older guests or people with lots of luggage were struggling.

Hotel not worth cost

We had a suite.....at least that is what they call it. Soffa, room had a dirty sock smell, carpet was right out of the fifties. Bedroom and bath very small. The hotel did not clean our room one day, after I called 3 times they came and made the bed. Also called 2 times and when to the lobby 2 times for towels....finally got clean towells around 8pm. Court yard area nice. Service horrible. Would not recommend.

Great location -

Great location if you want the Plaza. Helpful staff, but often hard to find them. When using the WiFi my computer contracted viruses and had to be reimaged. You get the same for less out on Cerrillos. Nice room, big bed, great bathroom, decent front porch.

Great place in historic old town of Sante Fe

We read reviews and stayed her. While it is not a 4 or 5 star hotel (no extra services and marginal front deck service), it is a very nice place to stay with cozy rooms off of a beautiful courtyard. The underground parking garage was a plus. It is just 1 block off the old town square.

Traveller's tip on dining

Highly recommend breakfast at Tia Sophia’s which is a short walk from the hotel near the central square

Don’t forget to ask for portable heater

We stayed at the Hotel Plaza Real in early June and were fine until the weather turned unseasonably chilly and rainy. We tried turning the heat on but it didn’t work. While checking out we were told that the hotel had turned off the heat for the season and that we should have requested a portable heater. Our king room on the 3rd floor would have been quite spacious if not for a stairwell which went down to a locked door, presumably an ajoining room. One plus was a semi private balcony where in warm weather one could prop the door open and enjoy the fresh air and mountain views.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

The hotel could not have a better location. It’s literally steps from the historic plaza and museums.

Charming Hotel in Santa Fe

Charming hotel...perfect location, right off of the plaza in Santa Fe. It was next door to a well known hotel that charges double the price. I had stayed here 13 years ago and loved it. I did notice that it had aged and was looking a little worn (carpets, ect.) It is in need of some up-dating of the decor, but for the price and location, its a bargain!

Traveller's tip

great shopping and art
