Great location and value
The best feature of this hotel is its central location in easy walking distance to the major St. Petersburg attractions. The hotel is clean and comfortable, if a bit basic. The provided breakfast was a typical continental breakfast (with the addition of some Russian items). The service at the hotel was exceptional. The manager and the girls at the front desk were all extremely helpful, both to Russian and English speakers in my group. My friend unfortunately had here handbag stolen (NOT at the hotel), and the manager was very considerate of her situation and helped us deal with the police; he even sent champagne and chocolates to her room to lift her spirits after the ordeal.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
Dont book a taxi through the hotel desk if you can avoid it - they take some extra commission. You can save a few hundred rubles by calling the cab company directly (although they might only speak Russian).

Very small room, very small beds
Thank goodness I was travelling with somone who spoke Russian! When we arrived (which in itself was mirculous, as the signs were not at all clear, and we went into this courtyard and only stumbled onto the entrance), we were told that we had been moved to a different Nevsky Hotel -- the Grand -- one of 5 or 6 Nevsky Hotel properties. The hotel was close to Nevsky Prospect, and closer to the Neva River and the winter Palace, that is a great location. The room was really small, with no view, and two very small beds, with small mattresses and small quilts. The operative word here is small. The bathroom was cramped as well. Breakfadt was included, and was "decent." The bottom line is, if you are looking simply for a base of operations, this is a fair hotel. Better if you speak Russian. Be prepared to be moved to another of their properties however.

Stay there and enjoy the city
The hotel rooms are small (mine was ~8 sq m) but that was compensated by hotel service and location: 10 min walking to the city center and metro.
