Basic but not bad
Stayed a week at the Hotel Cabin,in Reykjavik,18th-25th Oct.We chose this hotel, because of its close proximity to the Laugardalslaug swimming complex,as our daughter was competing in the European Championships there. Staff were very friendly and helpful,as were most people we met in Reykjavik. Rooms were a bit basic.TV only had 1 English channel(Sky news) and about 3 Icelandic ones. When we arrived, there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but a call to reception solved that! Quite a varied breakfast menu(buffet style),but the evening menu(we used only the once) was a bit dull(pasta based) There`s a Subway across the road, and a shop, which is part of a petrol station. The Wi-Fi/Internet was a bit of a rip off.500Kroner(about £3) for 15 minutes, and extremely slow! The bus into town stops more or less outside the hotel, and is 250kr for a single journey.3x buses per hour, but only 1x per hour on Sundays.A taxi will set you back about 1500kr. All in all,we weren`t expecting the Ritz,so,for the price,we couldn`t really complain much.
Get abus/taxi to the downtown area...LOADS of restaurants, some a very reasonable prices. The Steakhus has whale and puffin,if you like that sort of thing :-)

We will go back
Who wants to go to Iceland and stay in their Hotel? Not us and so Hotel Cabin was a great place to sleep and have breakfast. There is a bar if you need it and its all really clean. Essentials like blackout curtains and peace and quiet made a very restful night which is just what you need after a day of tours and taking in all the amazing pleasures that Iceland has to offer. Its a lovely walk into town and if you want you can walk right along the bay to Downtown Reyjkavik - its perfect and the staff are very helpful if you get stuck with anything. If you want a hotel with all the star rating qualities then this hotel isnt for you, but then you can do all those things at home cant you?
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
The Fish Factory Restaurant - Great food. Try the hot dogs...the best in Reyjkavik at the stand along from Gray Line tour office. Whale watch at the start of your trip because if you dont see anything they may take you again free of charge. Whale watching is a must along with Gullfoss Waterfalls, the Geysers and the blue lagoon.

Great location
I gladly recommend this hotel to any traveller. It s conveniently located and moderately priced. I ve stayed at this hotel four nights. The shuttle service from the Terminal building works just fine.
