Just not long enough

Yepton Cottages lived up to its amazing billing (and we had very high expectations). We knew it was going to be great even before we set off with helpful advice from Gaby about getting there and pre-booking supplies. From the first welcome they were great but unobtrusive hosts. We took up the offer to go to the supermarket and the tips on local food. We booked a car through them to explore the island and check out their recommendations about beaches and restaurants and Douglas’s map explanation (there really is no reliable map!) We stayed in No 2 which is a very big space with everything in plus a good sized bathroom. Two have two rooms but are more expensive. We couldn’t think of anything not there already. The setting is lovely with a small pool to cool off in or sit by and the lake to look out over. I spotted 20 or so different types of birds almost all unknown to me (but Douglas’s book helped). I don’t know how they have done it but it is a true haven on a beautiful island with amazing beaches all round. We’ll be back!

Long Bay and Half Moon Bay are worth the trip.

Excellent Choice

We have just returned from a restful and enjoyable 11 day stay at this resort. Our choice was partly influenced by previous Expedia guest reviews, which we found both accurate and helpful. The location was quiet and idyllic. We enjoyed the proximity of the lagoon and its wildlife and access to the adjacent hotel and beach was an asset. Our hosts, Gabriela and Douglas were extremely welcoming, made us feel at home and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable and hassle free. The use of a mobile phone, shopping trip on first day and local advice were invaluable and allowed us to settle in to our holiday very quickly. Our cottage was exceptionally well equipped, which made self-catering as simple as being at home. The property is 30 minutes from the airport and access to St Johns and its shops and markets was relatively straight forward via taxis or adjacent hotel shuttle, operated by reliable and friendly drivers. We will return.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

As much of the island is difficult to access by public transport, we hired a car for two days to explore, visit a selection of excellent beaches further afield and top up our supplies. This was very worthwhile, despite the condition of some roads. Worth remembering not to spend all your funds as there is a US$20 departure tax when leaving the island.

Beautiful !

We have just spent 2 weeks in one of Gabby & Douglas’ excellent Yepton cottages & we have had a brilliant time. The cottage is in a beautiful setting, overlooking a lake with pelicans, herons & egrets (amongst many other birds), which we were able to identify when Gabby & Douglas lent us a great bird book. They are fantastic hosts & nothing is too much trouble. Everything that you need is in the cottage & everything works well. Gabby & Douglas are always on hand should you need advice about transport, beaches, good restaurants & beach bars, snorkelling spots etc and they booked our hire car as well as trips on the tropical forest zip lines and to the stingrays. They also booked us a scuba diving trip with 2 really lovely & imformative dive masters. We can not praise Gabby & Douglas enough. We would recommend these cottages to everyone and we hope that you have as great a time as we did.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Gabby takes you to the supermarket on your first morning which is really useful, but it is quite a long way & having a car makes self catering a lot easier & means that you can see a lot more of this great island more easily.
