Sort of Ok

At the moment the hotel is on the edge of a redevelopment zone due to expo 2010. Much of the riverside bund area was closed so no nice walks along the river at night. Hotel next door and many others in Shanghai are being refurbished as are some floors on this hotel. We were put in a very nice room away from the noise, although everywhere was dusty. The breakfast is basic but ok for around four quid. Having said that the hotel is on a good location - walk to shops and bund, When the redevelopment of Shanghai is complete for Expo 2010 the hotel will be in a prime location. Overall well worth a vist - Where ever you go in Shanghai check on the statusof building works if you plan to visit before Expo 2010.

Charming Old Hotel a block from the Bund

The hotel is probably a 100 years old. The lobby is Rococco Style dark wood marbleand mirrors. The hallways and rooms have a similar motif. The Ritz massage and health spa is on the grounf floor. Gurest rooms are small, bathrooms were added as an upgrade and climate control is primative. The top floor restaurant / bar is very disappointing with a limited menu slow and indifferent service. I would stay here again for the location and ambiance

Luxurious Youth Hostel

Meant for local Chinese business travellers. "Common room" is very small without windows, with very small bathroom. They also turn the air condition off between 12 midnight and 6 am so room gets very stuffy and not well ventilated when you wake up. Bed is hard like most hotels in China. It’s 5-8 mins walk from Nanjing Dong Lu metro station. Area is very safe. Hotel staff were night. No laundry facilities - washer, dryer. We paid for laundry.
