As Beautiful as in the Pictures!!

Lomas del Volcan was just as beautiful in person as it was in the pictures on the website! The grounds were beautiful, the pool was picture perfect, and the room was large and comfy. The only thing we weren’t prepared for at the hotel was it didn’t come with even the common ammenities- like shampoo/conditioner, hair dryer, TV, etc. but there was a grocery store down the street and I got used to just leaving my hair wet. The staff were great, and the free breakfast was also very good, however it was the same thing every morning. We rented a car at the airport and drove (at night) to the hotel, and I don’t know what we would have done without it! The roads aren’t as bad as all the websites say, they’re just super windy, and all the activities are pretty spread out amongst the town so having a car was very convenient. I highly recommend this hotel!

Best hotel of our entire Costa Rica trip

We went through La Fortuna, Tamarindo, Manuel Antonio and Puerto Viejo, and no other hotel in Costa Rica could compare. The bungalow set-up felt private and intimate. The rooms, bathrooms and entire property felt very clean and manicured. The shower was HUUUGE and totally modern! There was a terrific breakfast every morning and the hotel staff was always accommodating and pleasant. No other hotel in town seemed as nice. La Fortuna isn’t a wealthy town on first impression, but it was our definite favorite, and the warmest of all we visited. ENJOY! My only complaint with our stay is that the window coverings didn’t keep out the light in the morning. I would have minded, but at least it got us up and out early! When you first enter the driveway, don’t let the long, unpaved road put you off. It gets better.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

It helped to rent a car (4 wheel drive). There are shuttles, but it was worth it to have the mobility for dinners & activities around town. While in La Fortuna, climb the volcano, hike to the waterfall, go to Baldi Hot Springs to relax, & zipline! We spent 3 days there, & I wouldn’t recommend too many more in La Fortuna unless you’re looking for something low-key.

Money missing from our safe!

The hotel was nice and the staff were friendly. However on our second night there we had money missing from the safe. We complained to the assistant manager who was very professional. He never made us feel like we were crazy or lying. He apologized and admitted it wasn’t the first time. He told us of the step they were taking to catch the thief. It is such a shame but his honesty was appreciated. My husband would recommend but with reservations.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Book your tours ahead of time. Zip line and white water rafting are a rush. Go into town and you can find great places to eat at a reasonable price.
