Awesome Experience at The Quay Hotel
Staying at The Quay Hotel was awesome! The people were very friendly, and were eager to attend to every need. Sure they did the normal good service things, calling cabs for me and recommending where to go and what to eat... But the electrician also gave me some new fuses when my fuse blew in my C-PAP machine, and made sure that my machine was working so I could sleep better. The Quay is the best Hotel ever!!

Shame the food lets it down
Our stay got off to a promising start when we were greeted by excellent and very professional reception staff. Opting for a suite we were very impressed by the room which had a very nice and well appointed two sofa lounge, dining area and bedroom although the small bathroom let it down a little. Note only penthouses have their own whirlpool baths and not the suites as some websites claim. The room had a nice balcony with a great view of the river and the Conwy hills. The big let down was the restaurant. Situated on the first floor with a great view of the river and Castle a very pleasant and comfortable setting (ignoring the old bird droppings on the scenic windows). The food, however, was a disgrace. They have opted for a fine dining menu but they dont deliver. The braised beef main course, for example, was tasteless, cold, over cook, under garnished, over-priced (£18) and badly presented. The waiting staff were mixed. The very professional wine waiter had the deportment and knowledge expected in the fine dining environment but he was totally at odds with the mumbling waitress who got our order wrong and the load and over familiar waiter who would have not been out of place at holiday camp. As breakfast was not included in the price we opted to have that elsewhere based on the experience of the night before. I wonder how much money the hotel loses by other doing the same? Would we stay again? Probably but if we did wed certainly elsewhere.

A good 4 star hotel
Sorry, but definitely not 5 star. The location and premises are excellent. Individual staff were friendly and helpful but there is a lack of staff training and attention to detail to stop this hotel from being 5 star. No automatic concierge service - usually no concierge on duty (day or night) - requests for Earl Grey teabags in the room had to be made twice before the receptionist himself brought them up - the entertainment centre in the room did not work (flat batteries?)and though we reported it immediately it failed to work for the full 3 days we were there. No one seemed sure in the restaurant who should allocate tables and deal with guests as they arrived. Food OK but not spectacular. Had to ask for juice glasses at breakfast on 2 of the 3 mornings. Overall I would give it 4 stars
