If you like to be isolated on your holiday this is the place

Arrived late in the evening at Club Marbella to collect keys, receptionist very nice but didn’t seem to know how to get to El Porton block 6. We set off in the dark and 1.5 hours later had still not found it. Club Marbella sent a driver to find us and 2 hours later we arrived at an icy cold apartment. The apartment and view out to swimming pool were very nice but we had requested a top floor apartment with private balcony and got a ground floor apartment with everone walking past our patio. 5 days after arriving there we had to complain to club marbella before anyone from El Porton came to clean the apartment. The tv had seven Spanish programmes and no English speaking ones and it was like looking through a snow storm. The nearest restaurant was 10 minutes walk away down a very steep hill and 15 minutes stagger back. It would be impossible to holiday there without a car.

Bar Los Rumbos in Calahonda did good pub grub and sunday roast and didn’t cost the earth. Torremolinos has a very good selection of restaurants and cafes and quite a bit less expensive than Fuengirola and Calahonda.

Nice but NO A/C

Family of five of us with 3 teenagers spend one week in late July 08 in a 2bedroom top floor apartment. It was very warm in nights and keeping the patio doors open let in the "mosqutos" and ended up with bites. Lot of surronding apartments and there is a tourist bus that goes pass frequantly. We hired a car from the Malaga airport which I will recommend. One small supermarket and few restaurants about 10 minutes walk down the roads, But bigger supermarkets in the town nearest is te one in the road to the toll road. Nice pool and excellent views from the apartment, free car parking with a electric gate which need a remote or a passcode to open. We were not told this but have to get code from another guest. We checked in at about 3am as flight was delayed El Porton is couple of kilometers from there.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Went to Gibraltar-not recomended, Marbella - recomended nice beach and restaurants. La Canada shopping center near Marbella (off toll road) good.

Great all round hotel

El Porton was exactely what i needed from a hotel, Not too far from the night life but far enough away that it did not interfere with my relaxation. The room was lovely and spacious and very well equipped, and the pool and surrounding areas were clean and pleasent. Just be aware of the 20 minute down hill walk of an evening. Highly recommend.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Should hire a vehicle of some description so you can explore the surrounding areas, also helps with the hill down to main hotel/Restraunts
