Perfect setting

You couldn’t fault the setting of this hotel right on the lake with beautifull views but disapointed with the hotel as I wouldn’t rate this as a four star hotel.Although the rooom was clean and the service good I was very disappointed with the room and the bathroom all very dated and very small.Salo is beautiful but small so after a couple of days you have done it all.Had a car so could travel out which was a lot cheaper than the ferry. With a good revamp it could be splendid.

Traveller's tip on dining

Would recommend ristorante papillon for good food and service a few houndred metres from the hotel.

Would return without hestitation

Nine of us stayed in five rooms for 7 nights in Sept ’09 and agree the hotel gets it just right. Excellent room service, good standard breakfast, excellent coffee (and breakfast service), Duomo bells daily at 07;30 were a surprise, but charming and the hotel is in a perfect location in Salo. Salo being the best of six lake towns visited on size, facilities and peace. Rooms on Via Duomo were fine, but lake view obviously better. Avoid crowded Sirmione for max taranquility. If we went back we would return to this hotel.

A lovely hotel in Salo’ - recommended!

Hotel Duomo is a friendly place, with excellent service. It is right on the lakeside and has a beautiful aspect, with a terrace and sun loungers and a jacuzzi, which our room opened onto. It does not have a pool, however, which it would benefit from. It is central to everything in the small town of Salo’ and is seconds from the boat stop for you to explore other towns on Lake Garda. Warning: It does not have a carpark on site and Salo’ has a pedestrianised lake front and a strict one - way system. The car parking is free, but you need a ticket from the hotel first and it is a covered and supervised carpark a few hundred metres away. There is, however, ample parking generally, in all the Lake Garda towns. Lovely breakfast and delicious food in the restaurant (4* prices, but a special deal for guests).

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure you get a day travel ticket for the bottom of the lake (Basso do Lago) and pay the supplement in order to use the Servizio Rapido. The boats are very pricey, but are the best way to see the area. Hiring a car is really a must in order to get to Salo’ from Milan Linate. However, the mountain roads are not for the faint hearted or inexperienced driver once you are on Lake Garda!
