Very relaxing

We had a great 5 nights at ’Romantik Natur’ although the location was a little disappointing at first - it is only a 30 min walk to Burgau along a beautiful cliff path, but we were advised not to return this way in the dark due to the proximity to the cliff edge and the narrow road way back is poorly lit with no pavements and cars do drive very quickly along it. The room was well presented and the grounds were lovely. The whole thing felt very private and secluded and we often had the closest of the three pools to ourselves. The lack of availability of food after breakfast was a shame and the fridge was a little small to keep many provisions in so frequent trips to the supermercados are required if you want to lounge around the pool. Breakfast was good - certainly plentiful, and in a really lovely location with sea glimpses - I would say that the photos gave me the impression that the property was closer to the sea than it actually is - definatley more sea glimpses than sea view. Despite paying a little extra for a sea view we didn’t really get one, and the requested double bed was actually two singles pushed together, which seems to be the annoying norm across the Algarve. Loads of birds - saw a Hoopoe in flight over the breakfast patio; quite spectacular. Definately caters more for the German market, but providing you don’t want to sit in and watch the one English TV channel all week, it shouldn’t be a problem! I’d go again.

beautiful location

Lovely location overlooking the sea. Gardens were beautiful too and we really liked the quiet low key nature of the hotel. The room was a really good size with an adequate but not amazing kitchen...included a fridge, two ring electric hob, basic utensils, coffee maching. No wine glasses though! I paid a little extra through expedia for a sea view but didn’t get it and couldnt be bothered to complain. Only about 6 rooms could have a sea view. The king size bed was actually two big singles pushed together which was a little disappointing because we had emailed specifically requesting a ’proper’ double bed. The decor was ok, if a little garish...lime green and burgundy! The pool (x 3) areas were clean and usually really quiet. We had the pool to ourselves on more than one occasion. Other guests were pretty much all germans, a few young families but mainly couples. Staff were generally quite moody and to the point but we found most of the portuguese to be the same. Breakfast was pretty good but mainly catered for German’s ie cold meats cheese etc. We did have bacon twice though! Ice creams and a bar but no other food on offer. You really need a car to get around. It’s not far at all to Burgau but the road at night is very dark with no pavement. Overall thought the good outweighed the not so good. The location was very quiet and relaxing, no sign of cabaret, kids club or lager louts...just what we wanted!

Traveller's tip on dining

Try Equine restaurant in Burgau and Beach bar in Burgau for piri piri chicken. Don’t bother ordering any Italian (pizza/spag bol) food in any restaurant it’s rubbish. Try the beach bar at bordeira at lunch time, tourist menu is well worth the drive.

Quite and away from everything

Great hotel but they do not do lunch or dinner, therefore, a car is essential. Anyway, you will need a car to see the Algarve :)

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Rent your car beforehand and collect and drop of at the airport as you will need a car...
