Beautiful views, but not sure of 4 star rating
My room was a double which was a good size room for a single traveller (single rooms might be tiny). Had lovely views to two directions. There was no lift so it was a bit of a struggle to get the suitcase upstairs as well as climbing the stairs after long walks on Sienas uneven hilly roads. I never figured out how to switch off the aircon in my room completely (managed to get it to a slower speed but only for a while). All instructions in the room were in Italian only. The hotel doesnt have a reception, just a small office on the ground floor. There is no bar or restaurant and the sitting areas on the ground floor are a bit grim. 3 stars +, yes, but Im used to a bit more comfort in 4 star hotels.

Just right for a Siena break
Apart from the location within the walls and the comfort and cleanliness of the room, this hotel solves that major Sienese problem - parking. There is an extra per diem charge for this but for convenience and piece of mind, this is well worthwhile. The location is just a short stroll from the Duomo and the Campo (5 -10 min. max depending on how many photos you take enroute). The room we had (15) was comfortable with good storage and a bathroom with very contemporary and stylish fittings, which all worked! We estimated that the beamed ceiling must be about 14 feet high! I would recommend il Chiostro and would definitely stay there on a return visit.
Traveller's tip on dining
With only two nights in Siena on the first one we asked the hotel for a few suggestions. One of them was Grotta Gallo Nero, just off the Campo. Very good food and not over-priced. The second night we passed by a place that looked interesting and returned in the evening. As we hadnt booked, we were asked to return at 9:30. We werent in a hurry and did. It was worth it. Wonderful! La Taverna di San Giuseppe. Book and dont eat lunch.

A great experience
This hotel is very different, being an ex convent, and is full of character. The staff were extremely helpful and the surroundings lovely. Being just inside the city walls it is an ideal location for exploring. We had the evening meal, which was an excellent sample of local cuisine. Would certainly go back and recommend to friends.
