Good value for the money

Pricier rooms are higher up, with a view of gold-color dragon boats on a lake in a park. Reasonably clean rooms, all with separate bathroom and T.V. Choice of breakfast included or not. A small food market, department store, railway ticket office, and small shops are within walking distance. My bathtub drain was a bit slow. Traveler’s Checks get a better rate than cash at the hotel, with A LOT LESS WAITING than at the (same rate) bank down the block.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

The staff of most 3-star hotels in China do not speak any English. A few at Reception do, at the Jin Sha Hotel. Ask about a downtown shopping center that looks like a giant 7-story black ball, and a taxi to it. On the 2nd floor are many technical gadget sales & repair cubby holes. You can pay a few hundred U.S. $$ cash for a hand-held English-Chinese translation device. This helps A LOT when dealing with people in China.
