A must see for Jaipur visitors

This hotel is beautiful as it looks on the website and more. The rooms are fantastic and authentic, and the staff are very helpful (although we had some difficult being understood by a couple of them). Breakfast on the rooftop restaurant was fantastic, and the main restaurant-which is beautifully decorated-serves good food. It is also not difficult to get an alcoholic drink here, which is difficult in some hotels in India. If I go back to Jaipur I will be returning to this hotel! A truly aunthentic Rajastan hotel experience. We loved it!

Much better than expected

From the variety of reviews I had read about this hotel (from Fairy Tale to nightmare), I did not quite know what to expect. I have to say that I was not disappointed at all: the bedroom was very large with a black marble bathroom, everything was obviously quite new and well-maintained. The staff was attentive, especially on the rooftop restaurant, and the food excellent value for money. The management wasn’t too pushy trying to sell you tours, which can be a real plus when you are hassled by touts all day long.

Traveller's tip

I never used the hotel taxi/rickshaw facility but rather looked for an independent rickshaw driver; I found one at his usual spot just around the corner from the hotel who was an absolute star: not overly talkative, friendly but not pushy, and he what’s most important very honest. I recommend you check him out if you require transportation: he can easily be found as he is the only one wearing corrective glasses and his rickshaw has a pink Swiss cow sticker on the windscreen!

Umaid Mahal Hotel, Jaipur

This is a great little hotel that deserves more than it’s 3 star rating by far. It was better than many 4 star hotels we stayed in. Beautiful decor, excellent, friendly service and good food. Not located near anything of interest but close enough to all the attractions by taxi.
