great location, shame about the noise
The Soleado is located a short stroll from the centre of Taormina. Initially it looks great however there is a real problem with noise at night as the walls between rooms are paper-thin meaning we could hear far more than we would ever want to from the bathroom next door. We also requested a deluxe/superior room with a double bed, whereas we got what was clearly a triple room with single beds pushed together. The decor was also pretty cheap and old fashioned so that although the room was large it lacked comfort (the bathroom in particular was old, with a shower that was more of a trickle, a short shower curtain not a screen etc). Parking was also an issue - while they do organise it for you, its not official and kind of expensive. As Taormina is so small and driving so hasardous, it actually seemed pointless and unnecessary stress to bring one anyway.
Traveller's tip
dont bring a car - you can hire one in Taormina if you want to make a day trip, and there are also good value coachtrips to Syracusa etc

Would not return
Comfortable bed, large balcony, but pokey bathroom, unfriendly welcome, parking charge (if public car park full), poor service, and a penny-pinching, plated breakfast. Nice pool though and quiet situation.
Taormina has lost most of its charm. As resort towns go, we preferred Cefalu.

Nice family run hotel
It was pretty good for a 2 star although you had to be careful when having a shower as the water ended up running into the bedroom. The furnishings were basic but the staff lovely and friendly. Parking cost 8 euro a night which wasnt that bad considering how small and busy the streets are here
Casa Grugno is a great Michelin star restaurant for those of you who dont mind spending a few euros...
