Would certainly choose the Athena Royal Beach if we went back to Paphos

The Athena Royal Beach is in an excellent position and extremely well equipped. The lounge/bar is a very largeand comfortable room. As we were early in the season it was not warm enough for sitting outside but there were 2 pools, innumerable sun loungers, tables and chairs, bowls and tennis facilities as well as walks down to the beach in the grounds. Inside there was a Gym, a Spa, Hairdressing salon and mini-market. The bedroom was a good size with a balcony and in immaculate condition. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful - even to the point of recommending the best restaurants, not withstanding that there were two in the hotel. The full breakfast was magnificent, to the extent that lunch became un-necessary. Fruit and wine was waiting in our room when we checked in.

The best breakfast I have eaten in any hotel. Eggs, sausage, bacon, omelettes( with a large selection of fillings) and crepes cooked to order as well as an enormous range of cold food, rolls, croissants and breads. Drinks included coffee. teas, ’squeeze your own’ orange juice, other juices and ’pour your own’ Champagne.

Perfectly happy

We were perfectly happy with this hotel. It was the first ’resort’ style hotel we had stayed at, so I can’t really comment on whether it deserved it’s star rating or not. It seemed fine to me. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were not huge, but clean and tidy, and it was in a convenient location only 5 minutes drive from Paphos harbour (or about a 30 minute walk). The buffet breakfast was excellent, and the restaurants were very good. We ate in the most expensive restaurant one night and paid similar to what we paid outside the hotel the night before. The only thing I would say is that this is not the place to stay if you like partying - the average guest age was quite high! Also there are two ’Athena’ hotels - the Athena Beach Hotel and the Athena Royal Beach Hotel ... and they are right next door to each other. They are also not signposted terribly well, so it can be confusing to find. But overall we were satisfied, and I would stay there again.

Incredibly restful and enjoyable holiday

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing holiday in the Athena Royal Beach Hotel, Pafos. On arrival we were told that the sea view room that we had booked was not available on the first night. We were disappointed but were moved into the room booked on the first morning and compensated with vouchers for 3 nights dinner in the hotel. For the rest of the holiday the service, food and hotel in general could not be faulted... other than the "entertainment" from the Peters and Lee tribute act in the cocktail bar, which was very disappointing.
