Not Impressed

Hotel room was adequate but the beds were hard and very uncomfortable not so much the mattress but it was the base which was like a camp bed. The hotel car park was also public and my car was raked down the bonnet with a key or something similar. Hotel took no responsibility for damage and did not have cameras in the car park. We decided to leave a day early because of the beds, and there was nothing else to see after a day.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Prices are the same as Madrid and the town was very expensive for what it has to offer, overcharged 12E in plaza restaurant and the waiter lost his temper because I challenged it, they did remove the overcharge and a local bar charged 7 Euros for a small beer; at least they politely changed it when challenged. On the positive side there is a delightful little cafe/bar behind the Cathedral that had prices the same as most other cities in Spain and the service and food was excellent.

An excellent place to stay for a reasonable price, especially if you have a car.

The hotel was excellent and the location was outstanding. The underground garage was very handy, if a little pricey, but worth it. The only issue I had was with the Front Desk when I asked for change of a five Euro note (for tips and such) and although she had a drawer full of coins, she said she didn’t have enough to give me change. I noticed she was officious and short with another guest as well. The next morning, I asked the Front Desk person the same thing and he was only too happy to oblige. Unless you like a full breakfast, don’t get roped into having it at the hotel. It’s about $16-20 a person. Next door is a fine coffee shop for espresso or any kind of coffee and a nice selection of breads and pastries.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

When you sit down at a restaurant, you automatically get charged for whatever they put down, which can be bread, a couple of cheeses, and olives. The bread may be OK, but the cheeses can jack up the bill, especially if you don’t really want them, and they are usually ordinary. About half way through the trip, we started to decline some or all of them, and saved $5-10 a meal.

June 2009: Construction Is a Nightmare

This hotel is probably much nicer when the entire street out front isn’t a construction zone. Finding the hotel and parking was an adventure unto itself, and after a long flight from the U.S., we really weren’t in the mood for another adventure. The room was nice enough, but the two twin beds were hard as a rock.
