Clean but out of the way
I would only stay at this hotel if I was driving to or from Catania or Taormina and found myself in Aceriale. There is nothing really wrong with it, but it isn’t near to anything. You’ll want to stay near the beaches in Catania, or further north near Taormina. There is a nice view of the water from the hotel, but you can’t get down to the water because it is down a long winding road and then a rocky cliff. There is a nice restaurant at this hotel but that is really the only thing to recommend it. The pool is pretty small and by American standards, this is more of a 2.5 than a 3.

Pleasant, relaxing stay
Very nice, pleasant hotel with helpful and polite service. Breakfast not wonderful, but definitely adequate. Great views. Bar expensive. No problems with noise in spite of location. Car essential if you want to go anywhere, especially in winter.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
There is a rather limited choice of restaurants in Acireale. Try Trattoria La Taverna (Via Ercole, 4) for quality and value - their antipasto is a feast. Although the hotel is not far from the town centre, it is rather a steep walk and somewhat dark and deserted in places, so I’d suggest using the car after dark.

A place you want to go back to
We stayed at Santa Caterina for 3 nights, despite having initially planned only for one. We enjoyed the nice view, good accomodation and above all an outstandingly good reastaurant serving the best and most original Pizzas we ever ate anywhere on this planet! Pasta and other dishes were excellent, the wine choice very large and of excellent quality, the service very friendly and the price more than fair! No wonder the locals come there in large crowds (specially on Saturday evenings) with all their family members and friends to enjoy!!!
