Best holiday so far!

The hotel was absolutely first class and the location was central to everything we wanted to visit - albeit we had hired a car. The staff were lovely and very helpful and the views breathtaking. My only niggle - and only a small one - we had wanted a hotel with an indoor pool, particularly for my daughter, but you had to be over 14 (which we had not been informed about) and it cost 20 euros/person per day!! However, we were out and about and enjoying the holiday so much that it didn’t really matter that much. We want to go back again and again...

When going to Italy make sure you are a confident driver. It’s like driving in London with road rage. Having a Sat Nav made it much easier - we were able to nip out of busy roads without the fear of getting lost - far less stressful. Plus parking, always have euros to hand. In some areas it’s 1 euro an hour, others it’s 3 euros an hour. Toilets are 50c per person - doesn’t sound much, but in a week with a family you can end up spending about £50!!

5* Hotel, 1* Service

One thing to point out immediately is that this is definitely a 5* hotel. The layout, facilities and setting/view are amazing. But it has issues... whereas some on reception are helpful, others are not - quite impolite and curt at times. Whereas the setting is great, the restaurants/bars are too expensive (bank on about 2.5 - 3 times average UK prices). The bus to Vietri was late (both times) and the car park was rammed (although there were weddings on to be fair). If they could get the service right, this place would be a great retreat.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Vietri Sul Mare itself is at best OK, from what we saw its a little tatty and there aren’t that many places to eat. Up from the hotel (15 mins walk) there is a tiny supermarket which is amazing (great products and so unbelievably cheap).

Great for Relaxing

The other reviews were correct. The hotel has fabulous views and the hotel staff were very helpful. The hotel is ideal for a relaxing break, spending time around the pool. You do need a car to get around as the location is quite a distance from Amalfi, Ravello and Positano and the driving is not for the faint hearted. Overall we would recommend the hotel, the rooms are a bit small but that is Italy in general.

Traveller's tip on dining

The breakfast included in the room rate is the best deal, whereas dinner at the hotel, although of good quality, can be expensive. So suggest asking for recommendations for the local restaurants but bring along your Italian phrase book!
