Do not stay here.
DO NOT GO HERE for comfort, tranquillity, good food or a warm welcome. You will not find any of them. On arrival we were shown to a room that stank of damp and had large patches of plaster peeling from the walls. When I asked to change rooms, the instant response from the woman at reception was.If you dont like it you can go elsewhere, but weve got your money now and you wont get a penny of it back. It was only when I got my phone out and started calling Expedia that she found us another room which, with its grimy walls, cold stone floor and charity shop reject furniture was at least better than the first. So much for comfort and welcome. As for quiet, with the constant clatter of shoes on the bare stone floors, the cracked bell at the convent next door clanking away and Ryanair passing directly overhead at zero feet every five minutes, dont expect to get much sleep, and thats not counting the mosquitoes eating you alive in spite of the netting on the windows. And no matter what it says on the website, there is no such thing as a full breakfast here. The breakfast is a very basic cold buffet continental affair, and you have to queue at the counter to ask for coffee a cup at a time. Worse, the breakfast room seats 24 at a pinch, and a fairly tight one at that. With 150 plus guests trying to get into it at the same time, it inevitably overspills onto the terrace outside, whatever the weather, and the total atmosphere is more rugby scrum than relaxation

an october chill!
A beautiful setting, basic facilities but no complaints with room or ensuite. Plenty of choice with the cold buffet breakfast. Reception staff, cleaners and breakfast staff all very pleasant and helpful. Hotel didnt put the heating on for the first 2 nights though, saying it was too early in the year! Plenty of blankets fo the bed though. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Traveller's tip on dining
We tried several restaurants around Piazza Delle Vettovaglie. All great but particularly liked La Stanzina on Via Calvaca.

A Relaxing Experience
The courtyard offered a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere to sit and play cards, read, etc. The beds were very comfortable and well-maintained. A ceiling fan would have been a great help on those very, very hot nights. The air-conditioning wasnt nearly as powerful as we are used to. The breakfast buffet was delightful--especially the coffee! We had an enjoyable 20 minute walk to the train station and about a 30 minute walk to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The entire hotel staff were pleasant and helpful at all times.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Pisa was our home base for numerous train trips to other locations. The only interesting attraction was the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There is an excellent pizza/pasta, etc. restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. It was enjoyable either sitting on their deck to dine, or bringing the pizza back to enjoy in the courtyard. We did purchase a few souvenirs and some clothing from a dress shop. Most of our time, however, was spent in other cities.
