The view at breakfast is surely the best on the island!!!
Whether it’s at breakfast on the terrace, relaxing by the pool or just enjoying the complimentary Madeira wine, the views from this hotel are stunning! Lots of variety at breakfast and a great service. Should we visit Madeira again, we’ll be sure to return to the Madeira Carlton.

Throroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
This was our third trip to Madeira and our first stay at this hotel. We were most satisfied with the overall comfort, standard and helpfulness. We were on a b&b package and could not fault the breakfasts. More than enough choice for even the fussiest of eater.Granted you had to pay for the use of parasols during the day should you require if you were sun bathing. My only gripe was the fact that the complimentary coffee sachets awaitng in the room were not replaced but a trip to the local supermarket had this sorted in no time. Given the chance we would return to this hotel and even request an upgrade to a superior room with either sea or hillside view depending on the time of year.

No complaints with the choice of local restaurants, but a trip to those in the old town location are well worth a visit as are the ones in the Marina area.

5 star facilities, 3 star mentality
First impressions were good, the room and facilities were probably better than expected, but there were some niggles that surprised us. The coffee and tea making facilities, which were advertised as complimentary, consisted of two coffee and two tea sachets on arrival. Any further replenishment was chargeable at a silly price. Likewise, the pool area was excellent, plenty of sunbeds, but when we asked for a parasol we found that these were also chargeable. This is just an example of the basic things that don’t cost the hotel a great deal of money and which you would expect when you’re paying for a suite at a 5 star establishment.
Traveller's tip on dining
Head past Reids toward the Lido area and turn left off the road down to Moby Dick’s. Looks are deceptive. Excellent food and service - you won’t be disappointed.
