close to airport and metro
Upon returning to madrid after traveling elsewhere in spain we wanted a couple of days to rest up and buy gifts in madrid. Hotel Zenit Conde de Orgaz is on the outskirts of Madrid close to the airport for early morning flight out (otherwise the metro would have served us well instead of taxi saving us 31 euro), and close to a metro station so we could access the old town madrid for sightseeing and gift buying. Hotel Zenit is great. An easy 5 blocks from the metro (however one or two transfers to get to puerta del sol, a 35 euro taxi ride to the airport and a genuinely helpful english speaking staff. computer access in the lobby and restaurant. Just dont use the phone in the room, expensive. It served our purposes at a very reasonable price (except for telephone). Because it is out of the core area however, it is isolated from shopping, a variety of restaurants (there are 2 restaurants in the neighborhood) and any atmosphere of the downtown Madrid. If staying for any length of time, or if exploring Madrid for the first time, I would recommend a downtown hotel. For our purposes it was perfect.

Hotel Zenit Conde de Orgaz
I was glad to be so close to the airport on my day of departure from Madrid because I needed to take a taxi and taxis are expensive. My room was lavishly comfortable and the exterior illumination of the hotel shone into my bathroom at night giving the room a pale greyblue light which was lovely. The meal I had at the hotel dining room (dinner) was very poor because I think the main cook was off that night--this was right after Xmas. It seems that bkfsts there are better and worth the expense. All in all, a nice place to stay.
