A good hotel!
Stayed for 7 nights during Easter. A comfortable hotel in a good location. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable and clean but with small (only 15") TVs in room. All rooms are now air-conditioned. Due to the new hotels built on the sea front across the road, clear sea views are only available in the higher floors in front facing rooms. Stayed the first night in a standard double towards the back of the hotel which was very large, comfortable but had no view. On request we were moved to a large front facing studio room with a kitchenette. The hotel staff where very polite, helpful and friendly. At breakfast there was a good choice of hot and cold food, cereals and fruit and plenty of it. Good location near to the Lido area with plenty of restuarants, shopping centre (Madeira Forum) and 3 supermarkets close by - within 10 mins walking distance. If you miss the courtesy bus, it is only a 45 mins walk into central Funchal.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
If booking excursions, shop around as prices can vary quite a lot. Lots of special offers on late bookings are also available. The open topped sight seeing yellow bus tour is not worth the money or time. You can do better just walking around town.

Good Hotel
Stayed for three nights recently with four friends. Very good hotel for short break. Rooms very comfortable and clean but the pillows could be better (they where very soft and gave no support), but when you asked for additional pillows the hotel staff where very obliging and extra pillows where supplied promptly. At breakfast good choice of dishes and whilst the hotel had a lot of German guests the breakfast choices where good for English clients also. Not a bad location near to lido and plenty of restuarants etc nearby.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
On a short stay take taxis. They are very reasonably priced. Also if going in wicker baskets down hill at Monte go up in taxi and get him to meet you at end of ride to take you back up to Monte. They will fix a price for this. The taxi only cost 25 euros to take us from hotel, drop of us at ride, and then pick us up after the ride and take us back up to Monte.
