Fantastic Location for a Venice stay
Definitely arrive at the Hotel by Water Taxi ! The Hotel entrance on the land side is less than impressive and very difficult to find if you are just arriving. The staff were great and really helpful. The rooms (we only had a "calssic" rather than a junior suite) are lovely. The decor has a very Venetian feel to it, whilst being modern. The best bit about this hotel, for us, was its location, whilst a walk away from landmarks such as St Marks Square etc, we preferred the more "local" feel to the location away from the throngs of people that surround the Rialto. We managed to explore the whole of Venice on foot from here (apart from Murano, Burano and Torchello obviously) and nothing is ever too far away. Would definitely recommend the location and particularly the Trattoris in Campo St Toma (5 mins walk) where the staff were great and the food superb.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
Walk, rather than pay for the water bus if staying within main Venice, nowhere takes lonfg to get to and you get to see the "real" venice on the way. If you do need to get buses, definitely get a 24, 36, 48 or 72 hour ticket as they are much better value than buying trips individually.
