Room was tiny and didn’t have a patio view at all

Although the hotel was clean and tidy, the additional breakfast of 12 euros for a couple of croissants was a bit of a rip off!

Great small hotel to relax

The hotel is fairly small and in a quiet area of Ile de Re. The staff were very friendly and helpful and managed to get us a room with more space as we were 2 single girls. The pool area was very relaxing and includes a spa and shade. Breakfast was a typical buffet with good quality produce. The restaurant at the hotel has really great food - fresh, interesting and not heavy - perfect for summer. It has a large deck area overlooking the water, making it a lovely place for lunch. I would go back!

Traveller's tip on nightlife

Most nightlife on the island is at Saint Martin. If you want to go there for an evening, organise transport well ahead of time with the Magic Bus!

Cosy stop for a short stay

Set about 100yds from the beach on Ile de Rey, first impressions of Le Grand Large were good. A really inviting pool and hot tub lie in wait on your way to the reception area. We stayed for one night on our way down south so were pit stopping only. The reception area is basic but were greeted warmly and genuinely. The room itself was basic and a little cramped but spotlessly clean and our room had great position overlooking the pool and further out to the sea. A small room with an equally small balcony but balcony none the less it had. We didn’t eat or drink in the hotel so can’t review that area. We chose to eat in St.Martin, the main town of Ile de Rey. It cost 28 euros to get there, about 15-20 mins by taxi. On arrival we were told by driver that getting home from there might be a problem as it was nearing end of season (end of Sept), we exchanged numbers and thought little of it as hunger was winning the priority battle. Mistake. After eating out in one of the many but sparsly patroned restaurants, we decided on a nightcap. A bar lightly dusted in locals awaited and after deciding that enough was enough we opted to return to the hotel. We rang numbers given to us by barmen and other locals to no avail and eventually our plight ended with the generosity of a barman who ran us home after taking pity on us.
