Nice place
Very nice hotel with nice staff. Food is good, the pool is amazing. Near to Carthage ruins and there were always taxis waiting. Internet was only available in the hotel lobby and was slow and some days it was not available. If you must have internet, don’t bank on this hotel.

Not what it says on the tin
Having visited Tunisia on several occasion, we know that it is necessary to book 5* hotels to obtain a reasonable standard of accommodation. When we saw that this hotel was run by Barcelo, we assumed that it would be of similar standard to their other properties. Not so! The Barcelo Carthage Thelasso is a typical Tunisian Palace hotel with friendly and helpful staff, broken light bulbs, leaking taps, flaking paint and a dining-room that looks and feels like a factory canteen (the food, though, was good). Do go if you are prepared to accept local standards but, if your are looking for European 5*, go somewhere else.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Tunisian prices are much lower than the rest of Europe. A taxi outside your hotel will happily become a chauffeur hire-car for sightseeing, expect to pay around 10-15 dinar (6-8 euros) an hour. Agree before you get in! Do try the Metro between La Marsa and Tunis Marine, passing through Sidi Bou Said and Carthage (70c any distance), it DOES go into central Tunis whatever they tell you.

Not adviseable
I stayed with my family in August 2009 for 2 nights in Barcelo. Overall, I was not impressed by the hotel. It is supposed to be a 5-star hotel, but the service was of below-3-star hotel. The main pool’s water wasn’t changed for days. The personnel was, wih few exceptions, amateur and unhelpful, sometimes even rude. I discovered that to get a towel (of very poor quality), you had to go to the reception and pay a deposit of 10 Dinars!! One of the snack bars within the hotel doesn’t accept that you bill your food/drinks to your room, supposedly because it is "independent". Last but not the least, there is nothing in its vicinity, you need a taxi to go anywhere, and nothing is really close by. My word of advice, avoid this hotel, as there are much better hotels elsewhere.
