Pleasantly surprised

This hotel hasn’t had many good reviews so we were quite surprised to find a grand hotel, good service, very good breakfast and reasonable buffet dinner (considering the price). The staff were more than helpful. The facilities may not all have been 5 star according to western standards but all the charges were also well below 5 star standards so I don’t know what other people were expecting.

Traveller's tip on dining

The local marina resort (within 100 yards of the hotel) has many good restaurants all reasonably priced. The hotel food was ok but I would recommend eating out. Menus are largely french but some of the Tunisian dishes are worth trying tryingwasit is better So it is

Out of Season

I have stayed at this Hotel many times but not in a February. The hotel only had around 25 people staying and a number of the staff were on holiday. The food selection was slightly restricted in regards to summer monthsas you would expect but the quality and service was excellent to a fault. There were so many staff around the hotel hovering in case you needed anything it became a bit trying. The swimming pool was empty and maintenance work carried out but who wants to use an outdopr pool in February? The rooms were cleaned daily and although slightly dated more than met my requirements. The hotel shops were closed due to lack of guests but the port is only a minute walk from the hotel. Only niggles I have is that they could add an English speaking TV channel apart from Euro News as many of the lower star rated hotels in the area carry and the price of the local beer at TND3.500 (1.75) for a bottle is steep. Do not expect the same room facillities or hotel experience as in Europe. If you want something different Tunisia is for you, but maybe not in February

If you can stand the hassle of people hawking their wares, go into Sousee to shop and eat. Restaurants and shops are cheaper with a good buy being shoes. Limited choice of shopping in the resort of Kantoui but is far more expensive and can be a rip off. Do not buy cartons of cigarettes from any small kiosk or shop unless reccomended, (Sousse or Kantoui) as the majority are fakes. Imported spirits beers etc anywhere in bars are very expensive. drink local drinks.
