Basic but Good
The Sands (3*) is part of a bigger hotel complex and residents are permitted to use all the facilities of the other 3 and 4 star hotels, including pools, bars and restuarants. The appartment itself was basically furnished with the bare minimum required, beds, dining table sofa. The bathroom was shower only, the airconditioning functional (a must in summer). The kitchen facilities were again basic, sink, 2 ring hob and a fridge. This is fine for those who just want to prepare breakfast, but not suitable for cooking a full meal. The rooms have a balcony with a sea (less than 50 metres away) view. On the whole the room is acceptable, though it may feel a bit spartan compared with the average 4* hotel room. Any gripes with the room will soon be set aside when you explore the town, Rethymnon with its long sandy beach, warm sea, great and numerous restuarants it makes an ideal place to stay in Crete.
