Good location for Xian
The bus from the airport drops you off at the Melody Hotel which is about a 10 minute walk from the City Lion. Walk towards bell tower and turn right. It’s before the the Gate on the left. I seem to remember that this hotel has undergone some name changes but it’s just before the Louis Vuitton shop. We had to ask and we were right on top of it. The hotel was good, and the bellboy spoke English better than the reception staff. The room was really nice with fridge and air con, lovely bathroom. You could eat there for extra but we went out. Did not like the goldfish in the tiny vase used as table decoration in Reception!
Nice place to eat-turn left out of the hotel and cross the road through the underpass. The restaurant is in the side road just there, on the right. The name is Chinese but the girls all wore sky blue tops. Really nice food and happy staff. Take a taxi to the train station and pick up the 306 bus to the warriors. Eat before you go in. It’s vast and HOT. Buy your souvenirs in Xian and bargain hard - the price drops as you walk away!

Perfectly adequate but not overly inspiring
Hotel is really well located between bell tower and south gate and is good value for the price. staff spoke sufficient english to get by. Room was comfortable though rather shabby, particularly in the bathroom/shower but not so much so that it hampered the trip.
Traveller's tip on dining
pop next door to the Cantonese Delight restaurant - just ten metres or so up from the hotel towards the bell tower. Lovely surroundings and great food at very reasonable prices.

Excellent Buffet
The hotel itself has very nice rooms and is clean. There is some construction happening out front, but that is true in half of Xi’an right now. The buffet was amazing, much better than expected. The lobby wireless internet did not work most of the time. The location is excellent, a short walk from the south gate.
