Al Husn Hotel Shangri-La Resort
Fantastic Child-Free Hotel, for couples who want peace! Quite an expensive stay but worth every penny. Staff attentive, without being too in your face. The Food was always sublime. My husband mentioned it was my birthday and within half an hour a beautiful chocolate cake and bottle of wine were delivered to our room. The poolside service was also fantastic - with cold flannels and slices of fruit delivered frequently. In addition, our own cool box of cold drinks with Evian spray (excellent idea) and Lip Balm (thoughtfully provided) appeared as soon as we arrived at the pool. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff who were always polite and very professional. It turned my recuperation break into a blissful week of pure relaxation. We are returning next year to celebrate my 50th without a doubt!
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Muscat is beautiful,so clean and welcoming. The Omani people are very friendly and rightly proud of their Heritage. Its difficult to want to leave the resort unless you are scuba diving (which is excellent) but make sure you visit the local Museum in Muscat. A shuttle serice operates from the Hotel (no photography within the Museum so leave your cameras at base).

Exceptional down to every detail
We were upgraded from Al Waha to Al Husn for no extra charge.Al Waha is undergoing renovations and everyone who booked in Al Waha got moved to the other hotels. The service at Al Husn is excellent. There is always someone to open a door, hand you a cold towel, or provide help. The hotel is beautiful down to every detail. The rooms were spacious and had a great view. The internet connection was great. Staying at Al Husn includes a free minibar, breakfast, high tea and pre-dinner drink. Restaurants at the hotel have great service, excellent food, but a bit pricy. Dinner for 2 without alcohol cost around $75-100 USD, so make sure to budget for that. As an American, not a whole bunch of familiar basic choices for food. I am a picky eater and had no problem at the Italian, Tapas, or Al Tanoor, but had a hard time finding something to order at other places. The private beach at Al Husn was beyond serene. Ask for information about the turtles regardless of which hotel you are staying at, as they allow any guests to go on the daily turtle tours on the Al Husn beach. We went on the hotel sponsored snorkeling trip($75 usd for 2 people) and we could see all kinds of fish on the reefs. However, the other day trips the hotel offered were too pricy($400-$450 per car), so we hired a private driver to take us out for half price. I would recommend a trip to Nizwa to see the fort. The scenery there and back is reason enough to go.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
If you can stand the heat and dont mind missing out on wadi bashing, go during the summer months as there are much fewer tourists and can get great prices on rooms, taxis, shopping, and tours and get exceptional service.

second time for a week, just right
excellent food and service good range of restaurants beach service good - iced towels fresh chilled fruit etc spa and beach massage prices silly (ridiculous prices) with no takers evident - cut cost by half might draw some custom could do with some small sailing boats
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
can hire boats from local fishermen, especially to see turtles around the bays, trust the locals to know where to go. Lovely polite friendly people. Dont go wadi-bashing if there are rain clouds - you might get rolled down the wadi by a storm flood.
