Eagle House At Bathford

Built in 1750 for a wealthy Silk Merchant Eagle House was designed by John Wood the Elder, the premier Palladian architect of his age operating in the Bath area. The present owners, John & Rosamund Napier, who live on the premises have spent the last 20 years restoring the house to its former glory. In addition to the rooms in the main house (some of which are large enough to accommodate 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 children) there is a delightful cottage in the old Walled Garden with 2 further double/twin bedrooms - ideal for a family or a group of 4 or 5 persons travelling together. As well as the two en-suite bedrooms in the cottage there is also a sitting room and kitchen. All bedrooms are with their own private facilities, tea & coffee trays and (in the main house) broadband Internet access. All rooms are quiet and overlook the garden and with some have far reaching views down the valley or towards Bath. There is an elegant and spacious Guests Drawing Room (with open fires on chilly evenings) and we are happy to provide ice and glasses free of charge if customers wish to consume their own drinks. We are always happy to chill wines and beers for guests and of course refrigorate foodstuffs if needs be.Located within the large garden is an ample car park - free to guests - which is out of sight of the road. Those wishing to stay at Eagle House without a car are not inconvenienced as there is an excellent bus service (4 an hour) both into and back out from the city of Bath.We are always pleased to help with directions and to lend maps at the same time we'll give advice on restaurants and make reservations if requested to do so. We have 2 good establisments for lunch and dinner - one being the village pub - within easy walking distance and many more only a few minutes away in the car. In the heart of the peaceful Conservation Village of Bathford.

Good Value in Bath
Eagle House was comfortable and friendly, we had a room with a lovely view of the garden; it was so tranquil that it was hard to believe that Bath was a short drive away. The breakfasts were very good quality with a choice of Continenetal with lovely hot croissants or for a small supplement "the full works English fry up!"

Base Camp
This is an ideal base for a sightseeing trip around this part of the West country, the accomodation is clean, quiet and friendly, although the Art in the palour needs to find a buyer asap, but then it is a family home you stay at rather than a hotel. An enjoyable stay at a place that has something diffent to offer.
Traveller's tip on dining
As only breakfast is available, you will need to find somewhere out to eat, two places come to mind, the first is The Crown at the bottom of the hill, exerlent food at a resonable price and the Walrus & Carpenter in Bath.
