Good for a base - but don’t hang around there

The hotel was fine. Basic, clean, fine. The staff are friendly, the hotel is perfectly located for short airport transfer, beach, main street of Moraitika, bars and tavernas. And it was cheap to stay there. There are a few bad points The breakfast is sub-basic. Grey weak coffee, untoasted bread (and no toaster), boiled eggs with the grey ring around the yolk (indicating not fresh), just one type of cereal (cornflakes - yuk) and no fruit or honey for the yoghurt. The hotel is also very noisy - there are no carpets, it’s all whitewashed concrete so you can hear EVERYTHING - beer deliveries at 7am, maids chatting, people leaving for early trips to the airport so suitcases being wheeled across tiled floor etc etc etc. Plus they hadn’t filled the pool yet so we had to go to the beach. Also the bathroom is tiny - you can’t even bend over in the shower to pick something up. And the door to the bathroom was just some sliding plywood that didn’t shut all the way - luckily my husband and I travelled extensively in India so we’re used to each other’s toilet sounds!!!!! Not good for new couples or friends then!!!! But, you know what, we spent no time in the hotel, it was just somewhere to sleep, and the deal we got on expedia was so good we can’t really complain. Go, it’s fine, but have low expectations. The area more than makes up for it.

Traveller's tip on dining

Alexakis on the Beach. Out of the Seabird hotel, just before you hit the water on the left is Alexis’ place. We ate there every day, twice a day for a week. Amazing stifado, sofrito, lakedolmades, tzatziki, fried feta, pasticci, moussaka, calamaris, grey mullet, shrimps - we never had the same thing twice. His wife Vivi is a fantastic cook, and his kids are charming. We had wonderful fun there with him for the week - would highly recommend it.

What a gem!

The Sea Bird reminded me of when I last visited Corfu over twenty years ago. It was friendly, comfortable and unpretentious, in a great location just yards from a lovely sandy beach and a few bars, shops and restaurants. It backs on to olive groves and fronts the road which leads down to the sea. The hotel bedrooms are spacious and clean, each has a balcony, air conditioning and TV. The bar is a great place to relax with an ouzo or to play pool, and the restauarant is homely with the ambiance of a taverna. The hotel is family run and really laid back. The local knowledge of the staff makes it easy to plan trips, catch buses, arrange taxis, find the best moussaka or just laze ont he beach. Messonghi river is a short walk from the hotel with more bars and restaurants to choose from, including a great beachfront cocktail bar where you can sit on beanbags whilst dipping your toes in the sea.The hotel is a great base for a chillout holiday and fantastic value for money

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

There are some lovely boat trips that leave from Messonghi. Try Nick the Greek’s boat for a great day out!

Nice, family hotel.

The two brothers that own the property are always available. The free breakfast and dinner are a nice addition. Clean, family atmosphere.

Half a block from the beach and eateries. Bring your beach towel, paddle ball set, and lunch.
