Expectations fulfilled
We arrived and were given a very basic (Standard) room which we didnt like...no view and very simple. We asked to see if we could pay extra to get a room upgrade and we got it, the staff offered us the "Deluxe" room. we turned very satisfied with the great sea view and roomy place that we got instead for a couple of hundreds extra..it was worth it, trust me.! The Hotel is nice with daily entertainment and variety on the buffet.the staff there couldnt be more kind... I want to live there to be pampered! It is a very good place for the payed price and the location is very convenient. negative point: it is close to the airport and you will have a huge jet passing low from time to time, not very often really but anoying at night.

excellent for a laid back break, not so good if you need a bit of activity
This hotel was beautiful and set in tranquil and secluded surroundings - the beach is practically your own except for the locals trying to sell you jewellery all the time. This can get a little tiresome and I can see why so many stayed in the hotel complex. The staff were accommodating - we arrived at 06:30 (it is a 14:00 check in) but they had a room for us within 3 hours. The hotel is in the quiet The whole hotel and the guests were very friendly - there was certainly a welcoming atmosphere. Snorkelling equipment and boat trips etc are available, free if you are all inclusive, nd there is also a spa. all of these things are worth taking advantage of if you can. The only negatives really are the constrictive menu (full cooked lunches only, no snacks), the fact that it is on a flight path (although planes do not fly over too often) and the location - ideal if you need a quiet break, but if you wish to see the sights or eat out a lot, all the main places are on the other side of the island. taxis etc are readily available though.
Traveller's tip
if you roll your own cigarettes, bring plenty of cigarette papers with you - they are not sold on the island due to local laws!

What a disappointment
Blue Lagoon hotel is the worst 3* hotel Ive ever stayed at. When we were shown to our room still with bags in hand, I had to ask the porter to request one of the bed linen changed as they had failed to recognine hygiene. The room was an absolute disappointment nothing like the write-up and photographs I had seen on their website. There were no toiletries (except for a small bar of soap) in the bathroom, bath towels are discoloured and rough like sandpaper. The TV was wedged on brackets almost into the ceiling - it was impossible to watch without getting a crick neck. The one and only dining (eating) area was like a bird sanctuary during breakfast until after lunch with birds flying, pitching everywhere they could. They tried to cover some of the food with nets but that didnt help get rid of the birds. The food at most times was cold and boring with not much of a variety and sometime left-overs from the previous day. There was absolutely no help from the hotel reception with regard to excursions - no leaflets, no booklets no nothing. We had to hire a taxi for the whole duration of our 2 weeks holiday in order to get some activities and to see the island. The best thing about our holiday in Mauritius is meeting some really lovely and friendly people and a joy to see how clean and beautiful the place is and would not hesitate to visit Mauritius again but staying at a decent hotel. However, in hindsight I would not recommend Blue Lagoon Hotel to anyone.
Dont take children along if youre staying at the Blue Lagoon hotel in Blue Bay, Mauritius. There are no activities during the day for adults let alone for kids unless you take up activities elsewhere outside the hotel. Even the older folkes were weary and board with being board!!
