Location, location
Hotel Tirreno is located about one mile from Tropea, the obvious reason for being in the region. It has a wonderful swimming pool and pool bar, and describes itself as having a beach. It does indeed have a private beach with lounges, etc, however, it is a serious 20 minute walk down a steep road to reach it. They do have shuttles at stated times. The beach is one of the few in all of Southern Italy that is indeed clean sand; so many beaches are rocky and/or trashy. The beach is in sight of Tropea, sitting beautifully on a cliff overlooking the Med. Our room faced a parking lot (ugh), but that may have had to do with the price. Not cheap, either. Nearly all rooms had Sea views.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Tropea is a real wonder, rivaling Taormina, in Sicily. This was the cleanest, and most tourist friendly of any we visited on the mainland.

relax in Calabria
Excellent hotel for a relaxing break and as a base to explore Calabria. Hotel beach is great for swimming. Staff are very helpful. Place is clean and room was good. Only fault is they serve terrible coffee at breakfast.
