Great value for Money

Very good value for money for a three star hotel. Clean rooms. Very attentive staff. Very good restaurant choices on site. The rooftop restaturant is a great place to unwind. Superb Indian restaturant downstairs. I would go abck.

Very Nice Hotel

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It was a good sized room, very comfortable, and had a pretty big bathroom for a hotel room. There are plenty of dining choices in the hotel, all of which had some pretty good food. I recommend trying the shisha pipe (it’s only tobacco) in the garden room on the roof for anyone that hasn’t tried it. It is closer to the airport than downtown Cairo, but the black & white taxis get you anywhere you need to go at a pretty decent price (about $10 average to downtown). The only drawback is that some cab drivers don’t know how to get to the hotel, but if you get them in the general area, they have convenient signs of where the hotel is located. Make sure to grab a card with driving directions in Arabic from the hotel.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

The Giza Pyramids were great, but if you take a taxi there, the cab driver might let someone in the cab to try to sell you a camel rental. Don’t be fooled if they say they’re the police, while wearing regular clothes, and that you cannot proceed to the entrance without a camel rental. Have them show you credentials if they claim it, and continue on to the entrance. To save you all that trouble, I recommend booking a tour (there are several available) from Expedia; they were pretty good.

convenient and good value for money

This was our second visit to the Karvin hotel, and, again, it met all our expectations. It doesn’t aspire to and wouldn’t reach 5-star standards, but the room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and quiet - if a little small - and it was good having a balcony. We had dinner twice, and would particularly recommend the Indian restaurant, breakfast was fine, and the location is handy for Heliopolis and the airport.

Traveller's tip

Taxis from downtown won’t know the hotel or the street - but it’s esy to find one on the main road
