Taxis
Hotel Globo is a great place to stay - about a 10 minute walk to the palace...the only issue is taxis wont take you back to the hotel. You have to call the hotel because the owner uses his own taxi services, and the local taxis are pissed about it. If we would have known beforehand, it would have been fine, but we checked our luggage and went to the palace first...luckily a taxi driver took pity on us after the others refused. Besides that, the hotel is gorgeous.

10 minute walk to what you want to see
A very nice hotel in a residential area. Its about a 10 minute walk to the Riva and Diocletians Palace. The rooms were large by European standards, and the amenities were comfortable. An odd item was that they encased the flat screen TV in some sort of a picture frame, which cut off part of the screen and interfered with the remotes operation. The staff were friendly, although they charged 300 kuna (about $60) for a ride in their van to the airport. There were one or two cafes around the hotel, and a bakery down the street; beyond that, I didnt see too much in the immediate area for restaurant options, although there was plenty within a 5 minute walk, and a lot of good places to eat on the Riva 10 minutes away.

hard to find
arriving in Split at night makes things a little difficult, the directions given by the hotel to find the place were very vague, it was only with the help of a local man were we able to find the place, lucky for us he lived around the corner, so showed us where to get off the airport bus early, otherwise we would have had a long trek back to the hotel. Breakfast was included and was huge!!!
not very good for eating and drinking near the hotel, you need to go into the town, next time I would get a hotel in the old section of Split, more convienent to everything. the hotel is only about 2 kms to the town
