Immaculate but expensive Hotel
We spent 7 Nights at Le Telfair and overall found it to be a very good hotel. The food was great if a little pretentious. Staff were excellent and helpful, our only criticism was the prices of drinks. Our tip would be to enjoy the hotel but also hire some bikes from the activity centre to see what poverty the rest of the island live in. We were left quite guilty at the contrast in standards of living. The reef the Hotel is near is hopeless for swimming (and marine life!) due to the consistently strong current. We found much calmer and marine-life rich beaches elsewhere on the island. Still beautiful though.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
If you venture into Bel Ombre you can buy a bottle of Rum for 100Rs (2 quid). In the Hotel that would cost twenty times the amount.

Great hotel, where they really look after you.
We were worried that this was going to be a honeymoon hell holiday resort, but we were delighted to find that, although there were a few of the usual google-eyed honeymoon couples, it didnt matter if you were not. A good selection of French, German, Italian and South African couples, families and even single people ensured that this hotel also didnt feel too much of a brits abroad place. We stayed in a Superior room - absolutely delightful. Great space, and good facilities. En suite bathroom was large with a huge separate shower as well as a large bath. A big TV in the main room - channels slightly restricted, but with free DVD loan if you needed, this didnt matter much. Restaurant was good. The breakfast buffet had the usual fare, but was well presented and offered freshly cooked eggs, on request. Dinner at the main restaurant had great choices, with a varied and well-priced wine list. The pool is huge, and there are attentive bar staff around all day. The beach isnt deep, but ensures a certain amount of privacy - sunloungers arent packed on top of each other. There are also free water sports - but this isnt a major sporting hotel (apart from the golf course around the corner!). The Spa also offers a wide range of treatments, and was a really good way of spending a few hours out of the sun.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
There isnt much to do, apart from eat, swim, drink and sunbathe. The resort isnt near to any other facilities - but do take a trip to the Nature Reserve. A three hour tour of the natural forest, the flora and fauna of Mauritius. Really insightful, and you get to find out where much of the food that ends up on your dinner plate comes from!
