Service was highly dependent on the time of day and who was working the front desk. In the evening there was nobody at the front desk for quite awhile and several guests including me were locked out.

Not enough attention to detail
The Rheingold Hotel was a useful pied-a-terre for our 4-day stay in Dusseldorf, but had they paid a little bit more attention to detail in the rooms, it would have been perfect. I originally booked this hotel as it had the famous all-inclusive German breakfast which we experienced in all its glory last year at another Dusseldorf hotel, but the Rheingold’s breakfast left a lot to be desired: cold coffee and a very poor cheap selection of items. The rooms were OK, but the pillows were extremely uncomfortable cheap foam, and there was a fault in each of the four bathrooms my friends and I had. My shower head was broken so would only squirt a tap-like flow, one friend had a collapsing shower screen, another had a look that wouldn’t flush and so on. I didn’t not enjoy my stay, it was fine, but I would not stay there again.
Traveller's tip on dining
You really have to to do the breweries in Dusseldorf - Schumacher have a place just two blocks down the street from this hotel and it is really superb. Also recommended is Zum Schiffen down in the Old Town, brilliant food.
