Excellent Breakfast

One night, Wessex Hotel, West Cliff, Bournmouth, October 2009. Although an older building, the public areas have been refurbished and are welcoming. Our room was dated, past its best but the furnishings were ok and clean, especially the bed, which had very nice linen and a large canopy. It would have been a good idea to bin the desk which was in there but otherwise it was adequate and large. Due to the age of the building, it would be hard to know where to begin to modernise hallways and rooms but we were more than prepared to over look this as the situation was good - a short walk to the cliff top and a stroll down to the beach and pier area. Excellent free parking which was extended to midnight on the day of checkout. You could access your room from 2pm and out by 11am, (with a store your luggage room available after checkout) which are better than many more modern chain hotels. The pool was lovely, smallish but circular so you could swim in a circle for hours! Not crowded either and free use of a well equipped gym. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection. Overall, we found it good value for money but if your priority is modern bedrooms, you wont find them here but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Avoid this hotel !!!

An awful stay - firstly the hotel is very dated and looks like a large scale faulty towers, dirty carpets, poor quality wall finish - the sort of place I would expect to pay £40, not £90. They only had a twin to offer us, no double as per booking and then there was a function that could very clearly be heard in our room which did not finish until 2am. The manager asked us if we thought it was music from an adjoining room (but it was clearly a live band) - very poor breakfast too - very greasy - manager did not deal with our compllaints very well.

Do not eat the hotel breakfast
