pleasently surprised

We stayed in may 08 for 2 weeks, the weather was good, not too hot and the area wasnt too busy, great location, inbetween the main road and the beach, but without the noise if you were to stay on the beach as the music went on till late hours of the morinigs. everyone we meet was friendly and welcoming. the food wasnt amazing, but it was enjoyable, we had our meals brought out to us, there was only a buffet for salads. the room was cleaned daily, nice pool area, which we had mostly to oursleves for the first week, until more customers arrived. We left we very posistive and thought turkey was amazing.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

ephuese and pamukalle 2 day trip is a must. tweeety tours offer the package for 36 pounds per person which includes a hotel stay and most food. Also - they take euros, lira and sterling practically everywhere. sometimes it works out cheaper to pay sterling depending on the exchange rate

It was ok

The hotel is listed as four star, however this is misleading and I would rate it two star at best. Rooms are cleaned every day, however this just consists of the floor being mopped, the bed being made but the sheets weren’t ever changed, and the bathroom was never cleaned, although the towels were replaced daily. However the room was basically nice, however it was desperately in need of some maintenance. The toilet seat had a massive crack in it, the flush was broken and often flushed continuously. when you used the shower cubicle it was clear it wasn’t waterproofed as the bathroom floor became floored and towels had to be put down. We were on half board, and the food was nice, but not great. I didn’t really bother with breakfast but it was a traditional turkish fare of ready made omlettes or boiled eggs, 2 types of cheese, ham and olives. they also have cereal, bread and jams and preserves. The dinners were nice but again not great. The pool was really nice and cleaned every day, and there were pleanty of seats by the pool. Other facilities include a pool table, 2 massive television screens and 2 computers with internet facilities. They also have a room set aside for saunas & massages etc however I didn’t see anyone use this. all in all it is a nice hotel, but it is not as good as it’s website makes out. However the staff are really friendly and helpful, and it is a 1 minute walk away from the beach.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

If you’re looking to go on excursions like Ephesus or Paumkkale, or if you want to scuba or horse-ride, the cheapest place we found to book through was Tweety Tours. Which is on the beach near Hotel Sehran. However a word of warning, you won’t be able to soak up much of the Turkish culture in Gumbet, as it is has very much become a mini british colony, with all resturants serving fry ups and Sunday roasts, with only one or two serving mezze or backlava.

Good Location

We stayed in the Serhan in October 2007. We were a group of 3 20 something girls. In terms of location, the hotel was great only 2 mins from the beach, close to Gumbet bars/restarants ect and opposite the taxi stand if you want to go further afield. We were staying half board which I wouldnt recommend as the food included wasnt good at all. (not sure what the food from the menu was like)We ended up eating out most nights. Rooms were cleaned daily although towels/linen had obviously been well used. Good as a cheap base but wouldnt go there if I went back to Gumbet.
